TWD: Grandma's All Occasion Sugar Cookies

Before we get into sugar cookies, check out the next post for Fruits & Passion gift card giveaways.

Now for the cookies, these were so easy and so good. I spent this weekend buying my tree and decorating the house for Christmas. Yet, when I went to make the cookies I didn't make them Christmas-y sugar cookies. Yup, I don't know what happened either.

I used orange zest in the cookies and then orange juice and confectioners sugar for the icing. They were nice and light, I could have (maybe did) eat a billion of these. I also froze half the dough for later use. I think these cookies would make a nice gift for someone, don't you?

The recipe was brought to us by Kuchenlatein, the recipe is available there and don't forget to check out what the other TWD bakers did!

They're so simple yet so pretty and elegant. I love the idea of adding the orange flavor to the cookies as plain sugar cookies just lack a little oomph, in my opinion. I am going to try the orange next time.

Beautiful simplicity Spike! No fuss, no mess... simply the best!
It didn't even cross my mind (too busy with so much these days!) to add flavoring, other than vanilla! It is though, the best cookie to do so... I admit!
Very delicate and truly lovely!

I think the orange flavor was the way to go. Even Dorie would agree, I'm sure. Great, elegant little sugar cookies there!

I think they are beautiful as is. Skipping the extra fuss of the cutouts = more time for you to go a-wassailing. I might never go back to cut out sugar cookies, in fact. I'm with you -- I could eat a billion of these! I bet they were extra good with the orange zest!

Orange is a flavor I associate with Christmas - winter-available fruit, and we always got one in our stocking on Christmas morning.
